Timothy "Tim" Williams

Timothy “Tim” Williams, 57, of Cary, North Carolina, passed away on April 2, 2026. Tim was a man of steady character, known for his humility, kindness, and generosity, who cared deeply about his family, his community, and his work. He was a loving and devoted husband to Stefanie and a proud and loving father to his daughters, Ashley and Shannon. Tim graduated from Grimsley High School in Greensboro in 1987 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1992. He later earned his licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.). He began his career as a co-op with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), later serving in the railroad grade crossing and signal design sections, and eventually in leadership roles within signal design. Following a distinguished career of service to the state, he retired and continued his professional contributions as a Senior Traffic Engineer at AtkinsRéalis until his passing. His character and commitment to serving others were evident from a young age, from earning the rank of Eagle Scout to his decades of contributions to North Carolina’s infrastructure. Beyond his professional achievements, Tim was a man of quiet presence who brought delight and laughter to those around him. In recent years, he became an avid pickleball player, enjoying weekly matches with friends and competing in tournaments. He had long embraced an active lifestyle, participating in community volleyball and softball leagues and playing soccer in high school. He also cherished daily walks in the neighborhood with Boeing, whom he called the best dog ever. Over the past 15 years, Tim and Stefanie shared a love of travel, both within the United States and abroad. They cherished time in nature — hiking and biking — along with city trips and relaxing seaside getaways. Almost every year, they traveled to Germany to visit Stefanie’s family, who loved Tim dearly. They were grateful for the many memories they created and looked forward to fulfilling their dream of purchasing an RV to discover the many wonders of the country together. Tim is survived by his wife, Stefanie Lang; his daughters, Ashley Williams and Shannon Williams; and his stepchildren, Evan Lang (Caroline) and Kaylin Lang. He is also survived by his mother, Genevieve Williams; his mother-in-law, Barbara Foerster; and his siblings, Shaughan Williams (Kathy), Kevin Williams (Ann), Lisa Turner (Jeff), as well as his brother-in-law, Kai Foerster (Tania). Many nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews will miss him dearly. He is fondly remembered by the sisters of his late wife, Katherine “Katy”: Jennifer Meador (Joseph) and Tricia Andress (Rob). He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Williams; his father-in-law, Eberhard Foerster; and his first wife, Katherine Williams, along with her parents, Clyde and Jane Wentz. A funeral service will be held at Apex United Methodist Church, 100 S. Hughes St., Apex, NC 27502, on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a visitation. Immediately afterward, a private family graveside service will be held at Apex Cemetery, 207 W. Moore St., Apex, NC 27502. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tim’s honor to the V Foundation for Cancer Research, founded by former NC State coach Jim Valvano.
