Lynne Griffin Garrison

Lynne Griffin Garrison passed away on March 4, 2024, at her home. She was born on February 14, 1957, to Gwendolyn Keller Griffin and the late Ronald Eugene Griffin Sr. She grew up in Jamestown, North Carolina. Mrs. Garrison was educated at Ragsdale High School and graduated from North Carolina State University where she was editor of the school newspaper and received a BA in Business Management. She was an active community member of the Apex and Raleigh area for many years, serving in leadership positions at the Apex Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, North Carolina State University Foundation, Wake Education Partnership, Leadership North Carolina, Poe Center for Health Education. She also attended Apex United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and served on numerous church committees. Mrs. Garrison worked in the Office of Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. as Assistant and Deputy Press Secretary and was the Public Information Officer of the Wake County Public School System. She also was the Director of Public Affairs for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services before becoming Vice President of Corporate Communications for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. In 2015, Mrs. Garrison founded Garrison Consulting Group to provide coaching and consulting services to corporate, nonprofit and government leadership seeking to advance individual, team, and organizational performance. She was a certified executive coach and consultant. Mrs. Garrison was the recipient of numerous awards during her career, including the Holmes Group SABRE Award, Triangle Business Journal’s Women in Business Award, and various awards for public relations, communications programs and volunteerism. She was married to her husband John for 43 years and enjoyed trips to the mountains of North Carolina, particularly Blowing Rock. Mrs. Garrison and her husband ran Garrison’s Country Store for several years, selling collectibles and antiques. She was an avid photographer of flowers and fauna. Mrs. Garrison was an avid reader and a long-time collector of duck decoys. She cherished her time with family. A service honoring Mrs. Garrison will be held at Apex United Methodist Church, 100 S. Hughes Street, Apex, NC on March 11, 2024, at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Apex United Methodist Church Capital Campaign, 100 S. Hughes Street, Apex, NC 27502; Communities in Schools North Carolina, 222 N. Person Street, Raleigh, NC 27601; or to InterAct, 1012 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC 27605. Mrs. Garrison is survived by her Mother, Dr. Gwendolyn Keller Griffin of Archdale, NC; husband, John Thompson Garrison, Jr. of the home; daughter Kathleen Garrison Austin (Ben) of Apex, NC; son, John Thompson Garrison, III (Alanna) of Holly Springs, NC; William James Garrison (Bianncah) of Carthage, NC; brother Ronald Eugene Griffin, Jr. (Debbie) of Archdale, NC; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
