In Loving Memory of Gretchen Graves Lewis Gretchen Graves Lewis, a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, left this world on September 6, 2023, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Born on May 22, 1934, in Whitesville, New York, she was the fourth of eight children born to Clayton Graves and Madge Fillmore Graves. Gretchen was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Mark Graves, Edward Graves, Junior Graves, her sisters Maxine Graves and Georgia Graves, her beloved husband William "Bill" Lewis, and their cherished daughter Valerie Lewis. In her passing, Gretchen reunites with those she loved deeply and has missed for so long. Gretchen's legacy lives on through her surviving children, Michael and Jeanette Lewis, Martin Lewis, and Thomas and Cindy Lewis, as well as her several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and brothers Gordon and Francis Graves. She touched the lives of all her family members with her enduring love, kindness, and warmth. Family was Gretchen's greatest joy in life. Her devotion to her husband Bill was unwavering, and together they created a home filled with laughter, support, and cherished memories. Gretchen had a zest for life that was palpable. She had a deep appreciation for music, particularly Bluegrass and Classic Country, which filled her home with the sweet melodies she adored. Her talent for playing the organ brought comfort and beauty to those fortunate enough to hear her play. Gretchen will be remembered for her warm and welcoming spirit and her ability to bring people together. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. As we say goodbye to Gretchen, let us remember the love she gave so freely and the impact she made on each of our lives. In her memory, may we find solace in the knowledge that she is at peace, reunited with her loved ones, and that her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. A celebration of Gretchen's life will take place on November 13, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Nashville National Cemetery in Madison, Tennessee, where friends and family will gather to honor her memory and share the stories that made her life so remarkable. Gretchen will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
