Mark Russell Knight

Mark Russell Knight, 53, of Cary, North Carolina passed away at home on March 27th, 2023 with his wife Maridy by his side. Mark was born on November 19th, 1969 in Durham, NC to Thomas Haywood Knight and Cheryl Odom White. Aside from a period in the mountains of West Virginia causing trouble, Durham was the place he called home for most of his life. He recently moved to Cary, NC; a great testament to his love for his wife, Maridy. Mark attended Northern High School in Durham where he was a center for the Northern Knights Football team, earning many trophies and even some bans from local buffet restaurants. At 18, Mark enlisted in the United States Army, completing basic training at the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning Georgia. He served proudly in the 82nd Airborne Division, both home and abroad in Vicenza, Italy. On October 26th, 2007 Mark married the love of his life, Maridy. Their relationship began when Mark challenged Maridy to a game of billiards. The stakes? A date. Mark won, and the rest, as they say, is history! For many years, Mark was a dedicated and decorated steel tip dart player. He was heavily involved in the Raleigh Dart League, Bull City Dart League, and North Carolina City Dart League. Even after his retirement from competition, he remained active in the local dart scene. He could often be found behind the registration table at the Upper Deck in Cary, NC, enforcing order with his signature sarcastic flair and infamous sense of humor. At the end of his career, Mark worked as a dispatcher at Eagle Rock Concrete in Raleigh, NC. He greatly loved working here, and his coworkers loved him. Mark was renowned for his love of his country, politics, music, and his Scottish Terrier Angus. Mark is survived by his wife, Maridy Eakin Knight, his father Thomas Haywood Knight (Tina Jordan Knight), his mother Cheryl Odom White, and his brother Matthew Thomas Knight (Dakota Christopher Powell). The family will be hosting a celebration of life at Embassy Suites, 201 Harrison Oaks Blvd, Cary, NC 27513 on Saturday, April 15th from 2pm to 5pm. All are welcome to attend.
