Betty Jane Lawrence Holt

Betty Jane Lawrence Holt, 80, of New Hill, NC, also known as “Betty,” “Jane,” and “Jane-Jane” to many, died peacefully after an extended illness, on Thursday, July 13, 2023, securing her journey to see her Lord and Savior. Betty Jane is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, Sherwood “Pete” Holt of the home, son Ray Holt of Apex, Sisters Katie “Kay” Lawrence Poe of Apex, and Faye Lawrence Nash of Hillsborough, Kayli Shelton Simmerson who was like a Granddaughter, as well as her two precious Grand-Dogs, Levi and Duchess, who she adored. Betty Jane also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Betty Jane was preceded in death by her daughter, Laura Jane Holt and her Parents, Ruth (Churchill) Lawrence and Fred Lawrence. In addition to being a Wife, Mother, and caretaker for her parents, Betty Jane worked outside of the home for many years, beginning her career at the former Apex Bathing Suit Factory in Apex. She then worked for over Twenty years at Almay Cosmetics in Apex before joining the Wake County Public School system as a Teacher’s Assistant. Although a Teacher’s assistant, Betty Jane found herself filling in quite often as a substitute teacher, and loved all of the children she worked with. The children referred to her as “Mrs. H.” Betty Jane retired after several years with the school system due to health issues. Betty Jane was an active member of Olive Chapel Baptist Church in Apex, until her health declined. Many years ago, she taught Sunday school to young children in the Church. She loved her family, neighbors, and friends dearly. As long as her health permitted, she was always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone when and where there was a need. She enjoyed gardening, and with her infamous “green thumb,” especially loved “tending” to her array of beautiful flowers both in and outside the home. As an avid reader, she loved the news, an occasional mystery or romance novel, and warm hearted, family-centered stories, whether it be in a book, magazine or on her Kindle. The Family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to so many, including, but not limited to, the Wonderful folks at WakeMed-Cary - especially Gail Poe McIntosh, UNC-Rex Rehab in Apex, Transitions Hospice, the Olive Chapel Baptist Church community, and numerous family members and friends. A very special Thank You to Katie Lawrence Poe, a faithful, loving and dedicated sister, who provided daily, essential onsite direct care for Betty Jane, while supporting both Pete, and Ray. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, July 17, 2023, at the Olive Chapel Baptist Church cemetery, 600 New Hill Olive Chapel Rd., Apex NC officiated by Rev. Dr. Randy Clipp. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Olive Chapel Baptist Church Children’s Playground Fund.
